The Big Iron model was designed to carry heavy, large framed Smith & Wessons like the N frame .44’s and X framed .500’s.
Often, these pistols are carried in chest holsters and that works well for some situations but not for others. For the hunter who wants his binoculars handy, the chest holster is in the way. Same for the bowhunter as the chest rig will catch on the bow string. Even the rifle hunter often finds the chest rig clunking against his rifle when carried in the port arms postition.
The Big Iron positions the pistol in a cross draw, upright position and divides the weight between the belt and the cross chest shoulder strap making a five pound “X” frame much more comfortable to carry. It rides high on the belt so that the barrel doesn’t dig in when sitting and it is out of the way of binoculars, archery shooting, etc. yet easily available when needed.

Model: Big Iron “Optics Option” $419.00
The “Optics Option” of the Big Iron adds a Hard Shell, leather clad hood to cover Red Dot style scopes. The Hard Shell restores the structural integrity of the holster that would otherwise be lost when cutting away the top of the holster to clear the optics and mount but is clad in leather to protect the pistol and optic.
These are a complicated build and you will need to provide detailed information about the optics and mount that you are using. The one pictured covers an Aimpoint T2.
All other features are the same as the regular Big Iron model.
